Academic researches are actively underway by sub-societies under the Korean Oriental Medical Society that publish journals twice or more yearly and hold both local seminars and forums and international conferences for academic exchange.

Their activities date back to the 1970¡¯s, having led to 11 sub-societies in 1984. Later on, this number increased to 22 sub-societies until 1996. Currently, 30 sub-societies for members and 13 sub-societies for associate members have been augmented.

KOMS has a role in approving the activities of sub-societies, settling disputes, promoting friendship and supporting the publication of outstanding treatises for development of Korean oriental medicine, keeping pace with the trend of globalization.
